Platycerium Andinum is a tall, slender plant. In the wild, the antennae are thought to be over 2 metres (6 feet) long, but in cultivation they tend to be shorter. The shield leaves are moderately densely hairy, fairly uniform on both sides, but the antennae are heavily hairy on the back and light on the top. The shoots are distinct and have long pale green hairs around them. Care for P. andinum is similar to P. Elephantotis, requiring plenty of light, fairly loose moss, evenly moist but not wet. P. andinum is particularly susceptible to rhizome rot when young. It is easier to start with a large, mature plant. Hybrids from P. Andinum
· P. Antis (P. Andinum x P. Elephantotis)
· P. Boonchom (P. Andinum x P. quadridichotomum)
· P. Saikeaw (P. Andinum x P. Willincki)
· P. Elemaria (P. Andinum x P. Elephantotis)
· P. 'Roy Vail' (P. Andinum x P. Madagascariense)
