Alocasia
The genus Alocasia is a genus of flowering plants in the Araceae family. It comprises 79 species, endemic to tropical and subtropical regions stretching from Asia to eastern Australia. Species in this genus are widely distributed throughout the world.
Alocasia is distinguished by its large, glossy leaves with prominent veins and diverse shapes such as arrows, hearts, or shields, along with a rich color palette ranging from deep green and silvery to almost pure black – typical examples include Alocasia Frydek, Dragon Scale, and Silver Dragon.
As a plant that prefers moist conditions and partial shade, Alocasia needs a loose, well-draining substrate that retains moisture, high humidity, and protection from direct drafts – these are key factors for producing large, beautiful leaves and minimizing the common problem of leaf burn.
