Platycerium Stemaria is native to Africa, with broad, wavy shields, thin leaves and gaps to collect organic debris for the plant. The antennae are characterized by a shiny upper surface and hairy lower surface. The antennae are usually divided into two lobes and the tip of the antennae is further divided into short lobes. The spore masses form the end of the antennae and are dark brown in color, as in all other species of dragon's nest. P. Stemaria is more sun tolerant than P. Elephantotis, but is not an easy species to domesticate. They produce young plants frequently if the substrate is kept moist. They are seasonal, with the shields growing strongly in hot, dry summers, but in autumn and winter they dry out and turn brown.
