Endemic to the humid foothills of the Colombian Andes, it was first scientifically described by Linden & André in 1873. Previously, Philodendron Melanochrysum was propagated in 1886 and introduced to Europe. Philodendron Melanochrysum has a dark green color with a brownish tinge, velvety leaves and long arrow-shaped leaves. When mature, it can climb up to 6m high and the leaves are 122 - 183cm long and up to 60cm wide.
